Bears Need Larry Johnson
Now that HB Larry Johnson is an unrestricted free agent after being cut by the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bears should take a serious look at the first round, 27th overall pick, in the 2003 NFL Draft. Johnson averages 4.5 yards per carry over his career and his down hill running style would be a welcome change of pace to that of current Bears halfback Matt Forte.
The lack of Forte to be able to gain yards on short yardage plays, as illustrated again against the 49ers, when they stopped him twice at the goalline, is an area that Johnson could excell, as he is a much bigger and more powerful back than Forte.
Yes, Johnson comes with some baggage. His tweets have recently got him relesed by the Chiefs. Using anti-gay slurs are not a way to get one points with the league, the team, or the fans, however, if the NFL can find a home for Michael Vick, the NFL can find a home for Johnson. He’s also gotten a reputation for being assaultive to women, as demonstrated by four arrests scine ’03. However, agian, if the NFL can find a home for Tom Cable, they can find a home for Larry Johnson.
Having Johnson would give the Bears an option that is stronger than Forte and less predictable than a playaction pass to Olsen at the goal line.
