Yankees Buy Another
The Yankees bought yet another MLB World Series title, number 27 overall. Spending a reported $208 million is apparently enough to buy the title. That’s more than the Pittsburgh Pirates, Florida Marlins, San Diego Padres, and Oakland A’s combined. It’s also almost twice what the NL Champion Philadelphia Phillies spent on their roster for finishing runner up to the Yankees. You can take the Phillies and Dodgers, combine them into one team, and still pay them less than what the 2009 Yankees made. In fact, that may make for a better World Series.
A-Rod alone earned more than the entire Pittsburgh Pirates team. And he’s got to be thankful that the rest of the Yankees, including World Series MVP Hideki Matsui stepped up and covered his backside from his disastrous World Series performance. After tearing up the Divisional Series and League Championship Series, the mighty A-Rod came plummeting down to earth and showed why the fans of the Yankees had been so hard on his post season performances the past few years. If I were him, I’d spend some of that $33 million he made in 2009 on buying gifts for his teammates who actually performed during the World Series, specifically Johnny Damon who made him look somewhat alive following his stealing of second and third base in game four. Then I’d go lay naked on the beach with Kate Hudson, all the while jamming to some Black Crowes (I doubt if he does that last part).
